I'm amused, Chilla was telling me last night how she got locked in a cage with a Vile Thorn and ended up apologising after she hit you (those gnomes have a lot of pent up anger for little folk) by accident. Then how you popped up from time to time to help out 'em out. Think she found it quite gentlemanly.

I don't think Chilla frequents these forums, but I'll let 'em know they've been a source of inspiration.

STRANGE ENCOUNTERS OF A CAPTIVATED MIND... the gnome perspective.

As I wake I find myself caged,locked in a bamboo stick prison of small proportions and to make matters worse horde and alliance forces seem to be thrust together as if there never existed such a thing as fundamental differences between our races .
We share nothing alike except the misfortune of being captured in this godforsaken no mans land they call Uldum and perhaps the general disdain for each others company .

Last thing I remember I was knocked out cold with a single blow to the temple in all the confusion of our capture by this elf of the blood persuasion now sharing my tiny cell and I quickly jump to my feet and ready myself for battle.
Surges of intoxicating energy pulsing at my fingertips waiting to ignite the moment he strikes.
I freeze at his hesitation..drat now what is this all about? getting cold feet are we, I can help fix that for you..come on..bring it...what's the deal here?

The internal struggle to maintain control of my focussed mind under the strain of these arcane currents running freely through my veins without a proper exit can't be healthy
but I can ill afford an all out clash in our confinement if it can be avoided,I shouldn't make
any sudden movements.
A mage prefers a little room when it comes to dealing with a rogue of this calibre.
My skin tingling painfully with static electricity as the seconds pass and I feel dizzy...its sickening. When tempers flair like that and the heart rate quickens, thoughts seem to liquify into arcane bolts of charged up lightening flickering behind my eyes like needle sharp stabbings .
Of course that little token of affection he gave me earlier didn't help matters, but pretty soon the pain will subside, numbed by the adrenaline rush tapping directly into the dormant pools of magic,drawing it close to the surface to do my bidding .

When the fighting starts I will lose myself in its flowing energy. Its a rush both liberating and terrifying as its set free, a drug of the purest kind with a bittersweet aftertaste so potent it drop-kick an elekk 6 feet under into his grave with its residual chemistry. When you dabble in ancient formulas such as these every benefit you reap has its drawback,that's what they taught us at the academy.

Why is he looking at me like that,isn't he going to make a move?, what is he waiting for exactly?..quit staring will ya and do something. I attempt a different approach and smile sweetly ...he grins..this doesn't entirely reassure me...you can never be sure with someone of his kind.

There is something about those emerald green eyes with a hue that sparkles like an unearthed jewel when the light catches it just right, faintly glowing around the rims when he furrows his brow as his gaze intensifies locking his sights onto mine.
They possess a vivid molten core, acid green like freshly squeezed vipers venom and seem more alive then anything I have ever encountered in other living beings both magical or otherwise,mesmerizing like a kaleidoscope they are.

Tainted by pure malice perhaps,burning right through the facets of my mind till it finds what it desires with a reckless abandon of unrestrained hunger that reminds me of wildfire feeding on dried grass turning everything in its wake to ashes.
A beast lurking beneath those reflective surfaces waiting to spring forth from its lair and devour my very essence no doubt,yet at the same time he seems calm and collected shrewd ..calculating and in full control of his faculties..intently fixated on a single purpose.

This does not frighten me half as much as perhaps it should have being in such close proximity to someone so alarmingly fanatic,instead I am enthralled as moth would be to its flame caught like a slave bound by unbreakable chains reluctant to even attempt an escape, I cannot look away from him.
Its restless craving for what I need to release so desperately from within me transforming us for the moment into almost a symbiotic entity.
After the same objective, but for different motivations entirely.

Soothing almost hypnotic and paralysing, like prey within the predators grasp.
Boldly staring death right between the eyes, suppressing a gasp as the breath stocks halfway down my windpipe.
Still fully aware of the dangers but incapable of putting up an adequate defence as a quiet calm takes hold of my senses, I feel the tension in my limbs relax
encapsulated in this beautifully sinister Sirens call ,beckoning..luring me across the edge of reason, sending me on a spiralling descend into the abyssal depth of this euphoric delirium.
Till the point of no return can be reached by taking just a few more steps, I force myself to pause and think, oh no.. this is so going to backfire.

Swept to the brink of oblivion it drove me snared in this suspension
wide eyed barrelling towards my inevitable destruction if we did not disengage from this doomed connection.
The fragile mortal flesh cannot withstand this much pressure indefinitely.
The drum of my heart pounding heavily inside it's chest cavity echoing like a warning sign each beat feeling like forever, a countdown ticking away the time will we are no longer drawing breath.
beads of sweat trickle down my spine as the world around us started to fade from memory till nothing else mattered but the magnetic pull of this strange exchange passing between what seemed our very souls set in motion to collide.

I took comfort in the knowledge that if I where to implode he would go right along with me when I discharged...neither would survive this fatal act while our fates where intertwined.
struggling now against this overwhelming feeling of surrender.
Never indulge when you should suppress the emotion..remember your training ..I cannot end this way...not an arcane overdose in the company of a blood elf...oh the shame this would bring to my family!..my mother would never understand.

This brief momentary encounter stretched grotesquely into an eternity as its events unravel.
on a different plain of thought where survival depends on will power and I left feeling utterly helpless to its prowess, pacified by its tempting promise..the sweet release of your demise is there waiting inside those smouldering eyes....yield to its power.

But then destiny decided otherwise with a cold splash of icy waters courtesy of my elemental companion which broke apart our entanglement and awoke me from this feverish trance, which could well have been my last.
Cleansing the details along with it as its evaporates from the corners of my mind.

Had the sun played these wicked tricks of the light, was I hallucinating..what exactly did happen here just now?..had he felt that ?..my cheeks colour red with embarrassment.
I hear the elf apologize and I thought it best to nod still with an awkward smile of bewilderment lingering, appreciating the fact he did not try to finish me right then and there for what I almost tried to do to him...but he took pity.

When he vanished from sight blending into the surroundings effortlessly leaving the cage door ajar, I counted my blessings and got myself out of there as fast as I knew how. All during my bid for freedom out of the city I could feel his presence in the shadows a few steps ahead ,and sometimes out of the corner of my eye I swear I saw those shimmering emerald eyes watching my movements,tracing my steps. Yet in a blink they extinguished into darkness upon second glance.

Perhaps I really have lost my mind out there in the desert and that would be the only acceptable explanation back in good old Ironforge for this apparent indiscretion.
Delusional due to heat exposure is perhaps a likely defence, but best never to mention any of this to anyone ever again...in this case I don't believe in tempting fate a second time.

Strange encounters like these and its side effects both temporary and fleeting distorting the boundaries between friend and foe cant last beyond its limited time frame.
Soon enough we will once again look upon each other as enemy's as the world compels us, Both probably aware that something unspeakable happens despite our better judgement but deciding to ignoring its very existence.
An unconfirmed pact of silence forged between two unlikely conspirators.
That day which will likely remain one of life's little mysteries will pass and all will return to as it should be before we fully realize where the original plan started to deviate in the first place.

With the sounds of battle in Tol Barad all around him, Arli looked down at the still form of the gnome mage. With a quick glance around, looking in case his Thorn brother Squadron was close by, he knelt down and leaned forward, whispering softly to her...

"Sorry Chilla..y'know...my mates were here and stuff.."

Arli smiles apologetically as he stands up and slips back into the shadows.

Later that night Arli sat alone, shivering, next to a small campfire he had managed to make in a remote and quiet corner of Gilneas. Unable to get warm and unable to return home when the frost-burns on the one part of his exposed skin, his neck, looked suspiciously like love-bites, Arli stared into the flames and muttered to himself...

"f'king short-arsed frost mages"

THE BATTLELINES ARE DRAWN

Safely back in stormwind in the comfort of my private quarters in the mage tower late on a clear starry night while i was still recovering,
i sat perched upon the windowsil of my room overlooking a cozy quare below and whats left of the old barracks where they use to house our homebound soldiers.
Even in the capitol you see the unmistakable signs of destruction, a gaping hole in the banks with salty seawater seeping through left in puddles underneath the ruins to erode the remaining foundations where the park use to be situated
Now giving me a clear view beyond the docks and the lighthouse of the ocean.
all seems so peaceful at this hour as seen from birdeye view,the city with its thousands of citizens tugged away in their slumbers.
And the moon above, my constant confidant and keeper of secrets casting its silver strands of light earthbound as if wrapping the world in a soft blanket of comfort.
I allowed myself to wondered what would happen if i ever saw "him" again under different circumstances.
I have seen unspeakable acts performed by the most gentle of my kin when cornered, could there possibly be those of his people not innately violent and striving for a peaceful existance such as we ultimately want to achieve for ourselves.?
i must not think these things..it is a mistake..an endulgence on my part wich could only cause confusion when i should not hesitate to fire the first shot upon any chance meeting.
My attention is drawn to the sound of hammering as I cast my gaze down towards the ground
where the town cryer is putting up the daily call to arms.
I send my elemental down to collect the notice.
All able bodies are to report to gilneas first thing in the morning.
Hmmm Better get some shut eye now while i can,busy day ahead tomorow as always.
Chruch bells pierce the silent streets of the canals as i drift off into a fitful dream where
shards of green taunt me to catch them, but they never seem to be in reach,
his image haunting the twilight hours till daybreak when they are banished back to memory.

As I enter the region via portal and report to my commanding officer who begins informing me of the attack plans,that nights musings seem a forgotten thing of the past.
Secure the waterworks for the alliance and stand guard till troops arive to releave you of duty then return to base for further instructions, make note that a band of particularly effective mercinaries are likely to be roaming the area contracted by the horde with the same purpose.
The company i was assigned too met with little resistance claiming the area wich gave us a false sense of teritorial dominace, when most of them set off to secure the parameters i was left behind busying myself with planting our flag and standing around with thumbs twiddling idely..i never saw it comming..An ambush..All when black the instant my head hit the cobblestone pavement as a blunt object cracked the back of my skull splintering it into pieces
of fragmented bone and sinue,I can feel the blood blossoming from the wound... but i am not dead on impact as the villain probably expected..gnomes are made of tougher stuff then that.
As i chance a sneaky peek through my eyelashes a shape materialized out of thin air
towering over me as i lay there perfectly still holding my breath, motionless at his advance
forward ..i can hear other movement so there must be more of them out there...damnit
my assailant swiftly turns his head from side to side to check on his companions who are shouting for his attention from further up ahead... the alliance must be returning to camp.
too distracted to thoroughly check if i am really alive or dead, I figure now is my only change..
as i open my eyes i can see them clearly..those eyes..it cant be..but it is...Abandoning my plan to set fire to his bridges, because. well. i owe him more then that ,i close them again
quickly in wild panic saying a small prayer waiting for the cold steel of his poisoned dagger to penetrate my flesh any second..but instead he mutters some strange words to himself i do not understand, unintelligable to a gnome with no foreign language expertice and i find myself wishing i had brought a dictionary to decyper its meaning.
As the sound of gunfire can be heard in the distance and the fog from cannons being fired
from the tower defences creeps closer he vanishes.
whats another bump on the noggin between..erh..friends..all is fair in....war i guess..
and even though i understand the absurdity of the situation, i have not intirely
lost my sense of humor..although i should start thinking about wearing a helmet
if he doesnt take in a few ettiquette lessons, time to teach this man some manors!
So he likes to play rough does he, fine! I like that in a man, shows character
I will provide him with something to remember me by aswell, So i wont be the only
one spending my nights alone in agony.
perhaps if he is anything like me he will understand the sentiment is purely affectionate.
at any rate I can guarentee a loss of sleep equal to what ive been deprived of lately.
he might even learn to appeciate the acknowledgemnt of his existance and take it as
a compliment.
nothing lethal mind you, just a reminder that this ice princess does not like
to be looked down upon too often without at least returning the favor in kind.
As my heart turns to ice shedding the gentle sentiment he somehow inspires
i scan the battlefield for his companions...first things first
lets put those friends of his temporarily out of commision...there can be no witnesses.
Saving the most important impression i intend to leave behind for last when
i face him alone...my savior..my demon...this notorious assassin.
Inlisting the aid of my comrads to make this happen they provide me with a diversion of
adequate proportions I have no intention to assist them in this battle
..cold perhasps..but neccisary if a am to sucseed in what i want to accomplish.
Careless to the outcome of this raging comflict, wether it be in favor or against the
alliance i make my way to a strategic location and remove myself from combat sending 3 mirror images of myself into the tumultious ongoings .
find him for me my dears, i know he must be on the outskirts of this skirmish sizing up his potential victims pacing himself till an oppertune moment presents a likely kill.
while he is stalking the odds are in his favor..bring him out into the light...he must show himself or there is no chance ..and i`ll be waiting patiently nearby out of sight with an icelance.
At last the moment dawns and its over in an instant, I find it rather anti climactic really
as razorsharp shards of ice from several directions penetrate their target and i watch
his nimble stance falter as he stumbles and slumps to the ground in an almost graceful
motion..but I do not feel vindicated in the slightest..instead i am overcome with
a bitter sting of betrayal,i feel the frigide callous melt a little as i watch him lying there on the soil all transulecent and pale.. frozen solid like a chiceled statue carved from marble.
A warm glow seems to be welling up churning around in my stumack what is this..compasion?
I never really got a good look at his features before now and i must admit i was curious.
Very few scars visible for someone in his trade he must be good at what he does when
he is awake..he is rather striking in apearance, some might call it handsome even..you know..for an elf...good god what am i saying...arrgh what the hell...
before i know what i am doing i i press a hand to his chest to check for a heartbeat,
a faint thumping can be felt underneath the cold surface and i breath a sigh of relief
Summoning up a containable heatwave should put you back on your feet before anyone
notices you where missing in action the past few minutes in the first place.
The air seems to shudder while i radiate heat from my body into the surrounding area,
steam engulfs the scene while he is rapidly thawing.
when color seems to return to his skin i desist my efforts.
Smirkling i add in a hushed squeek..Ive done what i can,..the next few days might be a little unpleasant to say the least but...you'll live.
No doubt we will meet again in future, another oppertunity for you to extract your vengeance on this gnome mage if you wish.
But secretly I hope that in a world of predictable hurt this outcome will be slightly different
and it wont have to go down like this.
As i skip back across the fields to our outpost a giggle escapes me..ooh that is gonna sting in
the morning!..my work here is finished.

I sit on the edge of the boardwalk and look out across Booty Bay. I feel strangely relaxed but there is a niggling feeling of guilt in the pit of my stomach that my comms is still switched off; the Mistress is away on Thorn business again and I really should be available on comms as much as possible. But I wanted to drop by the Bay again and hoped to see Fugi, and I didn't want any questions on my location and just why I was again in the Bay. However, there has been no sighting of her and my thoughts drift lazily back to my meetings with her, here at the Bay, and the reasons for doing so.

My daydreaming is brought abruptly to an end by a sharp prod in my back. My hands instinctively reach for my daggers as I quickly turn and look over my shoulder, to be met face-to-face by a female gnome. I recognise her as the mage that I aided in Uldum and then met again in battle. There is that unmistakable aura of the arcane around her and as our eyes lock I find myself frozen and falling into the depths of those big blue eyes, to drown in a pool of arcane magic.

"I'm watchin' ya buster", the voice of the Booty Bay Bruiser brings me to my senses and I nod slightly to him, removing my hands from the hilt of my daggers.

The mage looks at me with a faint smile on her face. I quickly glance around in case there is anyone I know nearby, then return an embarrassed smile as I feel my face redden; not sure if it is from the shame of being seen so close to one of the enemy or...something else.

The mage giggles and then turns and hurries back up the boardwalk as I pull up my mask to hide my redenning face and stare fixedly across the bay.

Hah! gnomes and elves.. makes me wonder what Gnolves would look like. ^^
