Antel lay in her bed, the soft sheets against her naked skin and a smile fixed upon her face. The room around her was still dark with only the slightest amount of sunshine sneaking through the long black drapes.
Arli had left that morning on some mission or another but she didn’t care the ring beside the bed had proved he felt the same about her that she did for him and that was more than enough.
The sound of empty wine bottle rolling across the floor stirred Antel and she sat up, the darkness in the room would of hidden secrets from anyone else but her years of living in the darkness and shadows had refined her eyesight and she could see her ghoul shuffling around in the dark
“Thirsty?” Antel smiled over at her ghoul as it looked up in surprise at its mistress
“Glaaa!” the ghoul managed as he sniffed at the empty bottles, perhaps part of the ghoul still thought he was alive and remembered drinking such liquids in its former life
“You have no need to drink my dear companion” Antel lifted herself out of bed with the sheets wrapped around her body she made her way across the room over the cold porcelain tiles which in any normal house would of been heated by the sun that was hidden behind the black drapes.
“Perhaps it’s time to take these down” Antel muttered to herself as she passed one of the drapes, She had always felt guilty depriving Arli of the sun and as he had shown her how much she meant to him, maybe it was time to do the same for him.
Antel nodded to her own question and pulled at the long heavy drape, the moment the drape hit the ground the sun seemed to make up for lost time and shone into the room like a group of hungry grunts running into the mess hall.
“ahh!” Antel fell to the ground trying to block the sun from her eyes and drag away from the light. She sat for a moment curled up in her bed sheets on the ground by the window behind another drape with a make shift hood around her head with only her eyes peaking from under the hood.
Then all of a sudden she looked across the room and all her frustration faded and the world seemed to be that much better, the smile reappeared on her face and she let out a sigh of relief and happiness. Antel had looked across the room to her bedside and noticed that the light which had forced her to the ground had hit the ring, the ring which in the darkness had only shown part of its true potential, but now the light reflected from it shone across the room and filled it with a warm light.
“Arli” she whispered to herself and leaned back against the wall watching the ring in all its glory and thinking about her future, a future she had never planned to have.
